Fight the winter bulge!!!

Now winters in full swing we have less daylight in the mornings and evenings, wet weather and cooler temperatures. Getting outside and enjoying your normal exercise routine will be harder, which may lead to you putting on a couple of extra kilo’s. Here are some basic tips

To help get your metabolism going and burn more fat, not just while you’re exercising but for the whole day, try dong 30 to 40 minutes of cardiovascular exercise before breakfast, 3 to 4 times per week. To burn fat you need to get your heart rate to approximately 60 to 70 percent of your maximum heart rate. Calculating this is easy with the following formula. 220 minus your age . For example, someone who is 45 years old will have a maximum heart rate of 175 beats per minute. By multiplying this by 60 and then 70 percent it will give you your “Fat burning zone”. Which in this case is 105 to 122 beats per minute. Most good quality exercise equipment will have an inbuilt heart rate sensor, or you can buy separate heart rate monitors such as Polar at all Orbit Fitness stores.
