A weight gym bench is an essential piece of strength training equipment in any home gym set up. You can use a variety of weights such as barbells and dumbbells to increase the exercises you can perform.

There are different types of weight benches, including flat weight benches, adjustable weight benches, and foldable weight benches. Some weight benches, depending on the type, allow for bench attachments which allows you to complete additional exercises that target different muscles.

Flat Weight Bench

This weight bench is the most basic, they do not incline or decline. Flat weight benches are very affordable, sturdy and support a wide range of exercises, including bench presses, tricep dips, dumbbell rows and many more!

They can also double as a cardio equipment option, as you can perform plyometric exercises like high jumps or step ups.

Adjustable Weight Bench

Adjustable weight benches allow you to sit at an incline or decline. Not all adjustable weight benches allow for both. With an adjustable weight bench, you get both a flat weight bench and an adjustable weight bench all in one.

The incline can be adjusted to support your back so you can workout comfortably and safely. The different angles allow you to target different areas of your muscles with exercises like incline bench press, making adjustable weight benches super versatile.

Folding Weight Bench

This is the perfect weight bench for those who are short on home gym space. A folding weight bench can be folded and stored away between workouts.

A foldable weight bench can be either a flat weight bench or an adjustable weight bench.

While foldable weight benches aren’t feature rich, they do support many different exercises.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I Do Bench Presses on a Weight Bench?

Yes, but not if you are planning on lifting very heavy weights. A press bench is more suited to heavy weight bench presses due to the inbuilt rack to place the barbell. You should not lift heavy weights without a rack. If you aren’t doing heavy weights a flat weight bench or adjustable weight bench will work fine.

  • Which Weight Bench is Right For Me?

It depends on many factors such as your height, weight, weight lifting capacity, budget and the home gym space you have available. If you want a more affordable option that you can still do many exercises on opt for a flat weight bench. An adjustable weight bench is great if you have more budget and want even more exercise options. If you are planning on heavy weight lifting, then choose a press bench.

  • Which Is the Best Weight Bench for Small Places?

Foldable weight benches are ideal if you have a small workout area. Foldable benches can fold flat enough to slide under a bed or be stored in a cupboard between workouts.
